Francisco Cipriano from Covilhã won the main category of the fourth edition of the Beira Interior International Percussion Competition, organized by the Beira Interior Cultural Association (ACBI) in the “snow city”, with the support of the municipality.
The contest had 48 candidates from Portugal, Switzerland, Spain, Holland, Italy and France, of which 16 qualified for the final in the four categories of the contest. Currently attending his master’s degree at Hochschule Berkünst, in Bern (Switzerland), Francisco Cipriano won in the category reserved for percussionists from 19 to 30 years old and received a marimba worth eight thousand euros. He is the first natural competitor from Covilhã to win this award. This year there was no second prize and two third prizes were awarded to Francisco Fernandes and Gonçalo Martins. In category C, from 16 to 18 years old, he won Oscar do Fundo, from the Chaves Arts Academy. In category B, from 13 to 15 years old, the first prize went to João Fialho, from the National Conservatory in Lisbon, and in category A, for the youngest, Pedro Leal won. The next edition will take place in 2023 and will have a Percussion Festival with daily concerts.
